Collision and Structural Repair
Frame Straightening and Structural Repair
Symptoms
Signs you need this work
- Vehicle tracks off center or dog walks down the road
- Uneven tire wear that returns after alignment
- Body sitting visibly crooked on the chassis
- Cracks or ripples visible in a frame rail
- Doors and body panels that will not align after a repair
Measurement before correction
Frame work is a measurement discipline. We record the chassis geometry against factory specification first, identify exactly where and how far it has moved, and plan the pull sequence from that data. Pulling a rail without measuring is how a shop turns one bent section into two.
After correction we measure again and keep both records. That documentation matters for the insurance claim and it matters at resale, because a buyer who can see the before and after numbers treats the repair very differently than one who is told to take it on faith.
- Chassis measurement against factory specification
- Sequenced pulls to correct twist, sag, and diamond
- Cross member repair and replacement
- Rail sectioning where damage exceeds repairable tolerance
- Body mount inspection and correction
- Post-repair measurement documentation
When sectioning is the right call
Not every damaged rail can be straightened. Metal that has been stretched, kinked at a sharp angle, or cracked will not return to specification and will not hold if forced. In those cases we section the rail, which means cutting out the damaged segment and welding in new material at an engineered splice location.
Splice placement matters enormously. Putting a joint at a high stress point creates a failure waiting to happen. We place splices where the manufacturer's structural guidance allows and we reinforce according to that guidance rather than improvising.
Overload and fatigue damage
Not all frame damage comes from a collision. Sustained overloading, hard towing duty, and years of stop-and-go route work all put fatigue into a chassis. That shows up as sag, cracks radiating from mount holes, or ripples in the rail web.
Fatigue damage is repairable but the repair only lasts if the underlying cause is addressed. If a truck is bending its frame because it is running consistently over its rating, the frame will bend again.
Pricing
What this typically costs
Ballpark range
$750 to $20,000 and up
5 to 80 labor hours
Commercial damage varies widely, so this is a range rather than a quote. The number for your vehicle comes from assessing the actual damage.
Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.
