Fiberglass, Composite and Delamination

Front and Rear Cap Replacement

Cap replacement removes and installs the molded front or rear cap on a body, including the structure behind it, seam bonding, and refinishing. It is the answer when impact damage exceeds what laminate repair can restore.

A structural job, not a panel swap

A cap ties into the body structure at every edge. Replacement means removing the old cap without damaging what it bonds to, repairing the framing behind it, then bonding and sealing the new cap so the perimeter is watertight.

The perimeter seam is the whole job in the long run. A cap bonded without proper sealing becomes the water entry point that causes delamination two years later.

  • Old cap removal and structure inspection
  • Framing repair behind the cap
  • New cap fitting and bonding
  • Perimeter seam sealing
  • Refinishing and graphics reproduction

FAQ

Front and Rear Cap Replacement questions

Repair or replace a damaged cap?
Localized damage is repairable by laminate. Damage across a large area, or damage that has broken the cap's attachment to the structure, is usually better replaced.
How long does cap replacement take?
Thirty to one hundred twenty labor hours depending on the vehicle and how much structural repair is found behind the cap.
Will the new cap match the paint?
We refinish it to match, blending into the adjacent panels. On a faded vehicle the match is made against the actual panel rather than the factory code.
