Collision and Structural Repair

Rust and Corrosion Repair

Rust repair removes corroded material back to sound metal, replaces what has perforated, and seals the repair against recurrence. Coastal Orange County humidity and road salt from mountain routes both accelerate corrosion on fleet vehicles, particularly at seams, wheel arches, and cab corners.

Symptoms

Signs you need this work

  • Bubbling or blistering paint
  • Brown staining at a seam or fastener
  • Soft or perforated metal at a wheel arch
  • Corrosion around a mount or bracket

Cut back, do not cover

The only rust repair that lasts removes all the corroded material. Filling over rust hides it for a season and then it comes back through the paint, usually worse, because the filler traps moisture against the metal.

We cut back to sound material, treat the surrounding area, weld or bond in new metal where the panel has perforated, and seal the repair. It costs more than a cosmetic fix and it is the only version that is still holding in three years.

  • Cut-back removal to sound metal
  • Patch panel fabrication and installation
  • Seam sealing and cavity treatment
  • Underbody and chassis corrosion coating
  • Anti-corrosion coating on repaired areas
  • Refinishing to match adjacent panels

Where corrosion starts on fleet vehicles

It is almost always a seam, a fastener, or a spot where the factory coating was breached and never resealed. Wheel arches, cab corners, box floor edges, and anywhere an accessory was bolted through the body are the usual locations.

On a vehicle that runs coastal routes, salt air does the work slowly and everywhere. On one that runs mountain routes in winter, road salt does it fast and concentrated on the underbody. Both are worth catching early because the repair scales with how long it was left.

What this typically costs

Ballpark range

$400 to $3,500

2 to 14 labor hours

Commercial damage varies widely, so this is a range rather than a quote. The number for your vehicle comes from assessing the actual damage.

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.

FAQ

Rust and Corrosion Repair questions

Is it worth repairing rust on an older fleet vehicle?
It depends on how much service life is left and where the corrosion is. Cosmetic rust on a unit with two years to go is often not worth it. Structural corrosion at a mount or frame location is worth addressing regardless, because that becomes a safety issue rather than an appearance one.
How do I stop it coming back?
Correct repair plus sealing plus keeping the underbody washed, particularly after mountain route work in winter. Most recurrence traces back to a repair that did not remove all the affected material.
Do you treat the underbody preventively?
Yes. Anti-corrosion coating on a chassis that is still sound is far cheaper than repairing it after perforation, and it is worth doing on units you plan to keep.
