# Glass, Doors and Body Hardware

Glass and hardware work covers windshield and window replacement, sliding and entry door repair, mirror and trim replacement, and the latches, hinges, and seals that keep a commercial vehicle weather-tight and secure.

Glass and door hardware are the components a driver touches most and the ones that most reliably generate complaints. A sliding door that binds costs seconds at every stop, and on a route with a hundred stops that is real time.

Commercial windshields are also a safety and compliance item. A crack in the driver's primary viewing area is an inspection finding, and on any vehicle with camera-based driver assistance the windshield is a mounting surface that requires recalibration after replacement.

Most of this work is fast, and it is the category where a fleet gets the most immediate driver-visible improvement per dollar spent.

## Services in this category

### Commercial Windshield Replacement
Commercial windshield replacement removes damaged glass, prepares and primes the pinch weld, installs new glass with the correct urethane system, and recalibrates any windshield-mounted driver assistance camera before the vehicle returns to service.
Range: $2,500 to $7,500

### Side and Rear Window Replacement
Window work replaces and reseals side, rear, and cargo area glass, including bonded and gasket-set windows, and installs new windows into panels that were previously blank on conversion vehicles.
Range: $400 to $3,500

### Sliding Door Repair
Sliding door service repairs the track, rollers, hinges, latch, and power mechanism on van side doors. On a delivery vehicle this door cycles hundreds of times a day and wear shows up as binding, dropping, or failure to latch.
Range: $400 to $3,500

### Entry and Cargo Door Repair
Entry and cargo door repair addresses cab doors and rear cargo doors: skins, frames, hinges, latches, check straps, and seals, with alignment set so the door closes cleanly and seals evenly.
Range: $400 to $4,500

### Mirror and Exterior Trim Replacement
Mirror and trim work replaces damaged mirrors, mirror arms, and exterior trim components. Mirrors are the most frequently damaged item on any wide-bodied fleet vehicle and are a direct safety item rather than a cosmetic one.
Range: $200 to $1,500

## Questions

**Does a windshield replacement require ADAS recalibration?**

On any vehicle with a camera mounted to the windshield, yes. The camera position changes with the glass and the system must be recalibrated or the driver assistance features will read the road incorrectly. We handle the recalibration as part of the job.

**Can a cracked windshield be repaired instead of replaced?**

Small chips outside the driver's primary viewing area are often repairable. A crack that has spread, or any damage in the primary viewing area, needs replacement.

**Why does my sliding door bind?**

Usually a worn roller, a bent track, or a door that has dropped on its hinge. All three are repairable and the fault is generally obvious once the door is operated on a lift.

**How long does glass work take?**

Most window and mirror work is same day. A commercial windshield with recalibration runs six to eighteen labor hours including cure time before the vehicle can go back into service.
