# Delamination Repair

Delamination repair reattaches an outer skin that has separated from its core. Localized areas are injected and clamped to rebond. Larger areas are opened, the wet or degraded core replaced, and the skin relaminated before refinishing.

Range: $1,500 to $20,000

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.

## Symptoms

- Soft or spongy area when pressed
- Visible bubbling or waviness in the panel
- Hollow sound when tapped compared to surrounding area
- Area spreading outward over time

## Find the water source first

Delamination is a symptom. Water got in somewhere, and unless the entry point is found and sealed the repair will delaminate again around its edges.

The entry point is usually a roof seam, an unsealed fastener from an accessory installation, or impact damage that cracked the skin. We map the extent of the delamination and trace the source before planning the repair.

- Sounding to map the full delaminated area
- Water entry source identification and sealing
- Injection and clamping for localized separation
- Open, core replacement and relamination for larger areas
- Fairing and refinishing to the surrounding surface

## Questions

**Does delamination get worse if left?**

Yes, consistently. The separated area holds water, flexing works the boundary outward, and what was a hand-sized soft spot becomes a panel-sized one.

**Can it be injected or does the panel have to be opened?**

Localized areas with a dry core can often be injected and clamped. If the core is wet or degraded it has to be opened and replaced, because injecting resin into wet core does not bond.

**How do I stop it recurring?**

Seal the water entry point and keep roof seams and accessory penetrations maintained. Nearly every recurrence traces back to an unaddressed source.
