# Solar Panel Installation

Solar installation fits roof-mounted panels with a charge controller and wiring into an auxiliary battery system, extending how long a vehicle can run equipment while stationary without idling the engine.

Range: $1,500 to $12,000

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.


## Mounting and sizing

Roof mounting has to be sealed properly and has to survive freeway airflow and pressure washing. A panel that lifts at seventy miles an hour is a serious hazard, and a poorly sealed mount is a roof leak.

Sizing is limited by roof area more often than by budget. We calculate realistic daily generation for Southern California conditions rather than quoting panel ratings, which are measured under laboratory conditions you will never see.

## Questions

**Will solar run my equipment alone?**

It supplements the battery bank rather than replacing it. For moderate loads it can cover a full day. For heavy loads it extends run time rather than eliminating charging.

**Will roof mounting leak?**

Not when it is sealed correctly. Leaks come from mounts installed without proper sealant and backing, and that is avoidable.

**Can I add panels later?**

Yes, if the controller and wiring are sized for expansion at the outset. Worth deciding at design time.
