# Electrical Diagnostics and Fault Finding

Electrical diagnostics traces faults in body, accessory, and upfit wiring using voltage drop testing, circuit isolation, and load testing. The objective is to find the actual cause rather than replacing components until the symptom disappears.

Range: $285 to $5,000 and up

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.

## Symptoms

- Intermittent lighting or accessory failure
- Battery drain when parked overnight
- Equipment slow or weak under load
- Blown fuses that keep recurring
- Corroded connectors or damaged harness sections

## Testing under the fault conditions

A circuit that reads twelve volts with no load can still fail completely under a real one. Voltage drop testing under load finds the resistance that a static test misses, and that is where most fleet electrical faults live.

Recurring blown fuses are a message, not a nuisance. Something is drawing more than the circuit was designed for, and replacing the fuse repeatedly eventually turns a fault into a fire.

## Questions

**How long does diagnosis take?**

One to twenty labor hours depending on how intermittent the fault is. A dead short is fast. A fault that only appears over bumps at temperature takes longer.

**Can you find a parasitic drain?**

Yes. Circuit isolation identifies which branch is drawing, and on upfitted vehicles it is very often an accessory installed without a proper switched supply.

**Is the diagnostic fee credited?**

Yes, against an authorized repair when you proceed with the work.
