# Panel Replacement and Sectioning

Panel replacement removes and installs a complete body panel when damage exceeds what repair can hold. Sectioning replaces only the damaged portion of a large panel by cutting at a planned seam, which controls cost on long box sides and trailer walls where full replacement would be wasteful.

Range: $750 to $15,000

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.

## Symptoms

- Damage that covers more than roughly a third of a panel
- Metal that has torn, stretched, or been previously repaired
- Corrosion perforating a panel from behind
- Repeated repairs to the same panel that keep telegraphing

## Replace or section

On a twenty-four foot box, a forklift strike three feet off the ground does not justify replacing the entire side. Sectioning lets us cut at a planned seam, remove the damaged portion, and bond or weld in new material, which cuts both cost and downtime substantially.

The judgment call is where the seam goes. It has to land somewhere the panel is supported, it has to be finishable so the repair does not read as a patch, and on a graphics-wrapped vehicle it has to account for how the wrap will be reproduced across the joint.

## Substrate matters

A steel cab panel, an aluminum box side, and a composite trailer wall are three different repairs with three different joining methods. Welding an aluminum panel with steel technique warps it. Bonding a panel that should be riveted leaves a joint that fails under vibration.

We identify the substrate before planning the repair, which sounds obvious but is a common source of failed work on mixed-material commercial bodies.

## Questions

**Will a sectioned panel be visible after paint?**

Done properly, no. The seam is placed where the panel is supported, finished flat, and refinished across the adjacent area so the transition is invisible. A visible seam usually means the joint was placed for convenience rather than for finish quality.

**Can you match the existing graphics across a new panel?**

Yes. We reproduce the graphics across the repaired section. On an older wrap the existing vinyl will have faded, so we will tell you honestly whether a panel-only reproduction will match or whether the side should be redone.

**Is replacement always more expensive than repair?**

Not always. Chasing a large damaged area with body filler and blocking can take more labor hours than removing the panel and installing a new one, and the replacement will hold better. We price both when it is a close call.
