# Damage Assessment and Repair Planning

A damage assessment is a documented inspection that establishes the full extent of damage before repair begins. It produces photographs, measurements, and a written repair plan, which is the record an insurance carrier needs and the basis for an estimate that does not change three times mid-job.

Range: $250 to $600

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.

## What the assessment produces

The output is a document, not a verbal opinion. Photographs of every damaged area, structural measurements where impact is involved, an itemized list of what needs repair versus replacement, and a written sequence for the work.

This is what turns a disputed claim into a funded one. An adjuster looking at a photographed, measured, itemized report has very little room to argue that damage was pre-existing or that a panel could be repaired when the measurement says otherwise.

- Photographic documentation of all damage
- Structural measurement where impact is involved
- Itemized repair versus replace determination
- Written repair sequence and labor estimate
- Pre-existing damage noted and separated
- Documentation formatted for carrier submission

## Assessment fees

Collision assessment for an insurance claim walk-in carries no charge. Systems assessment is $150 and in-depth diagnostic time is $285 per hour with a one hour minimum. Both the systems fee and the diagnostic time are credited against an authorized repair when you proceed with the work.

## Questions

**Do I need an assessment if the adjuster already looked at it?**

Often yes. An adjuster's visual inspection catches what is visible. It does not catch frame movement, hidden mount damage, or damage behind a panel. Those become supplements later, and having them documented up front shortens the whole process.

**How long does an assessment take?**

One to three hours for most commercial vehicles, longer when structural measurement is involved.

**Can you assess a vehicle for a pre-purchase decision?**

Yes. A pre-purchase body and structural inspection tells you what you are buying, including previous repair work that was not disclosed.
