# Cab Body Repair

Cab body repair addresses damage to the driver compartment shell: doors, hood, fenders, bumper, roof, and cab corners. On a commercial truck the cab is a structural element bolted to the frame, so repair involves checking mount integrity and door alignment rather than only smoothing the visible metal.

Range: $750 to $12,000

Collision estimates for insurance claim walk-ins carry no charge. Systems estimates are $150 and diagnostics are $285 per hour, both credited against an authorized repair.

## What we repair

Cab damage ranges from a parking lot scrape to a full corner rebuild after a side impact. We repair the panel where the metal allows and replace it where the damage has stretched or torn the material past the point where a repair would hold.

The step most shops skip is verifying that the cab still sits correctly on its mounts. A cab that has shifted even slightly will show up as a door that will not seal, and no amount of hinge adjustment fixes a mount problem.

## Alignment is the whole job

A cab panel that looks correct but sits a few millimeters proud will whistle at freeway speed and leak in the rain. Drivers notice both immediately and it is one of the most common complaints after a cheap repair.

We set gaps against the opposite side of the vehicle and verify seal compression before the panel gets painted, because correcting alignment after refinishing means redoing the paint.

## Questions

**Can a creased door be repaired or does it need replacement?**

It depends on whether the metal has stretched. A shallow crease usually repairs cleanly. A sharp crease that has thinned the metal, or damage that runs into the door structure behind the skin, is better replaced because a repair there will telegraph through the paint later.

**Why does my door leak after a previous repair?**

Almost always because the door or the cab is not sitting where it should. The seal only works under even compression. If one corner is proud the seal cannot close the gap no matter how new it is.

**Do you repair rust at the cab corners?**

Yes, and it is common on older units in coastal Orange County. We cut back to sound metal, weld in new material, and seal the seam properly. Filling over rust just delays the same repair by a year.
